Under the Hanseatic period, Skanör was an important trading port. Remnants of this history can be seen in the Saint Maria Church and the Greyfriars’ Friary, which was built in 1267 and is now a museum. Skanör is also known for having the highest concentration of half-timbered houses in Sweden.
